Nominate now - LETS Awards 2009

Tuesday, 4th August 2009

Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board (LBTB) is now looking for tourism’s most talented individuals for the Lancashire Excellence in Tourism Skills Awards 2009 (LETS 2009), which will be held on Thursday 12 November in the impressive Marine Hall, on Fleetwood’s beautiful esplanade.

The visitor economy supports 54,000 jobs in Lancashire and to remain a key player in today’s competitive market our skilled workforce must excel and stand out from the rest; from talented young chef to unsung hero, Lancashire’s top performers in their field now have the chance to reap the benefits of a LETS 2009 award.  Closing date for nominations is Friday 18th September 2009.

In 2008 Steven Smith (above) 22year old chef at Leyland’s Farington Lodge Hotel, was nominated by Group HR manager Martin Reeves and went on to win LETS Lancashire Young Chef of the Year 2008.  Since then, Steven has reached the finals of Northwest Young Chef of the Year and been promoted to Senior Chef de Partie.

Speaking about this year’s LETS Awards, Martin Reeves said “From our experience, Steven thrived on the additional attention placed on him during the nomination and awards process.  Winning the award gave his confidence a huge boost, has driven him to achieve even greater recognition for Farington Lodge and has advanced his career tremendously.

Nominating Steven was all about dedication; his dedication to presenting customers with the highest quality food and Farington’s dedication to developing his talent and future in the business.  I’d recommend entering LETS awards to anyone who wants to celebrate similar promise and best practise in their teams.”

Lisa Jackson (above) was also nominated in 2008, by her line manager at Huntley’s of Samlesbury and went on to win the LETS Young Tourism Manager of the Year 2008.  Since then, she has been Highly Commended Employee of the Year in the Business Awards, has won Lancashire’s Young Apprentice of the Year 2009 and been promoted to Food Hall Manager at Huntley’s.

Speaking about this year’s LETS Awards Lisa said “I would definitely recommend and encourage employers to nominate their staff for a LETS award. It certainly gave me confidence and a new focus to my career, as well as a whole range of new opportunities which have expanded my knowledge of the industry.

Perhaps, most importantly, my hard work was recognised not just within my own workplace but in the wider community - which was also good for business.”
