Lancashire Winners Enjoy England Awards

PRESTON IS ONE OF THE BEST NIGHTS OUT IN THE COUNTRY

… AND THAT’S OFFICIAL!

Preston City Centre has been awarded “Purple Flag Status” officially recognising our city centre as one of the safest, cleanest and most enjoyable nights out in England.

The Purple Flag status is enjoyed by only a select few towns and cities throughout England including Westminster, Manchester, Oxford and Bath.

The award, which is a real feather in Preston’s cap was attained via Preston’s Business Improvement District, a project managed by the North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, who were responsible for spearheading the application.

Ken Williams, Chair of Preston’s BID said:  “We’re absolutely delighted to learn that Preston has been awarded Purple Flag status.  It’s well known across the night time industry that achieving the standard isn’t a walk in the park, it’s a big job, but we’ve done it and we intend to make the most of it by shouting from the roof-tops that Preston is THE place for a good night out”.

The rigorous application process includes the submission of a formal application which evidences the offering within a town or city applying for Purple Flag and is followed up by a formal assessment from industry experts including senior police officials from the Metropolitan Police, who were particularly impressed with what Preston has to offer.

Ken Williams, continued “The big job now is to let the whole of the north-west know that Preston stands shoulder to shoulder with some of the most recognised towns and city centres across the country in terms of offering the ultimate night out.  It’s easy to take for granted our varied selection of restaurants, bars, clubs and night-time entertainment venues, but clearly, we have the lot.  Preston’s Purple Flag working group and those who operate businesses in the night-time economy within the city centre should be justly proud of achieving this standard, it was hard work and richly deserved”.

The Purple Flag, which will be flown in the city centre will officially be presented to Preston at a ceremony in June.
