Lancashire Casts A Powerful Spell

Tuesday, 24th January 2012

Take 100 colourful and informative pages, mix in a year of anniversaries and events, add a dash of celebrity, fold in a substantial measure of delightful characters and sprinkle with unforgettable experiences - and you have all the ingredients for a recipe to  entice more visitors to Lancashire in 2012.

This week sees the arrival of the new Lancashire Visitor Guide 2012, a 100 page invitation to spend time in Lancashire in an extraordinary year packed with historic, sporting and once-every-Preston-Guild landmark events.

Each year more visitors are experiencing the delights of the county and discovering what Lancashire means to them.  Whether it’s the remarkable history, our castles, halls and country estates or the natural treasures found along our coasts, on our hills and fells or our thriving culture, artists and artisans, embracing the new and exciting while cherishing our great traditions,  the lure of Lancashire has never been more irresistible.

Produced by Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board (LBTB), 30,000 copies of the Lancashire Visitor Guide are distributed across the UK, as supplements in magazines, through Visitor Information Centres and at key trade and consumer events such as BBC Gardener’s World, the Great Yorkshire Show and the Open Golf.  Members of the public can also order a copy or read a digital version on visitlancashire.com/visitorguide2012; making the guide available to the website’s annual 1 million visitors.

Mike Wilkinson, Managing Director of the tourist board said “Over recent years we have seen a healthy increase in visitors to Lancashire, as well as greater awareness and appreciation of the Lancashire brand.   As a county we are blessed with coast, country, cities and cultural assets which this year come into their own, with events such as the Open Golf, the Preston Guild and the 400th Anniversary of the Lancashire Witch Trials.

“The new visitor guide aims to capture the attention of new as well as regular visitors with an impressive array of features, on a wide range of interests from walking and cycling, to food trails and spa breaks – even knitting.   In it we invite readers to put the kettle on and spend an hour or two just browsing; having done that, I’d challenge anyone not to find something to their taste.”

The Lancashire Visitor Guide 2012 includes information on Lancashire’s Tourism Award Winners 2011/12 and full listings of tourist board partners, accredited accommodation and Taste Lancashire places to eat.  Local singing sensations Alfie Boe (Fleetwood) and Jodie Prenger (Blackpool) have also added their personal touches to the guide and give an insight into some of their favourite Lancashire places.

A special section on food and drink includes recipes from local chefs highlighting Lancashire produce, a quick guide to traditional farmers markets and information on some of county’s most popular Beer Festivals.
