Taste Lancashire Exhibition

9 March 2012

Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board (LBTB) will be delighted to welcome diners at the tourist board’s next Taste Lancashire Produce evening which takes place at The Three Fishes, Mitton,
on Tuesday 20 March 2012.

The tourist board’s new dining events, in partnership with some of the county’s finest restaurants, help demonstrate the abundance of superb produce available across Lancashire and the creativity and talent of local chefs.

Diners enjoy a locally sourced, three course dinner for £20 and get to meet and hear from one of the producers who has contributed to a special Taste Lancashire menu.

Following the success of the inaugural event at The Millstone at Mellor, taste buds are poised for a menu with a theme as Andy McCarthy, Head Chef at The Three Fishes, has selected a range of dishes using some of Lancashire’s finest cheeses, that promises to tantalise.  He is working with award-winning cheese makers and guest producer for the event Butlers, who will also launch a brand new cheese on the night.

It was 2001 when a 14 year old Andy McCarthy joined the crew at Lancashire’s Michelin star restaurant Northcote, as a kitchen porter. Blackburn-born Andy then went on to train at Blackburn College, before being accepted on the Northcote Apprenticeship scheme in 2005.  This successful scheme has already launched the careers of several young chefs who, like Andy, now Head Chef of The Three Fishes at just 25 years old, are well on their way to the top of their profession.

Chef Patron of Northcote and Managing Director of Ribble Valley Inns, Nigel Haworth said, ‘The Taste Lancashire Produce evening is a great event to showcase the outstanding local produce that we have on our door step. To work with the likes of Butlers enables Andy and myself to create quality local dishes.’

As part of a new programme of activity to raise the profile of Lancashire produce, LBTB has developed and will promote a series of these Taste Lancashire Produce evenings. The restaurants and producers will benefit directly from the income generated by consumers attending these events and through the creation, sourcing and celebration of these special Lancashire menus.

The marketing of this event forms part of the Food Connect programme, for which LBTB has secured funding from the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE). The funding is to support food tourism activities, which includes the marketing of events which bring together suppliers, chefs, restauranteurs and customers, to demonstrate the breadth of local food on offer in Lancashire and the skills that can create exciting and ‘mouth watering’ dishes.
