Taste Lancashire Lune Valley Smokehouse Spectacular

Marketing Lancashire is delighted to announce a very special lunchtime Taste Lancashire Produce event which will take place at The Redwell Inn, Arkholme, Nr Carnforth on Saturday 23 June 2012. The Redwell Inn is currently Lancashire’s Taste Lancashire Restaurant of the Year 2011/12.

The tourist board’s new dining events, in partnership with some of the county’s finest restaurants, help demonstrate the abundance of superb produce available across Lancashire and the creativity and talent of local chefs. Diners enjoy a locally sourced, three course meal for £20 and get to meet and hear from one of the rural producers who contributed to the bespoke Taste Lancashire menu.

The Redwell Inn is situated in some of Lancashire’s most impressive countryside and it’s in these superb rural surroundings that Chef Patron Rob Talbot has created a lunchtime menu showcasing the Inn’s own Lune Valley Smokehouse produce.  From locally sourced mussels and seabass, to their home made black pudding and unique Laggis (Lancashire Haggis), they’re all smoked in the recently installed smokehouse attached to the inn.

Rob started to experiment with smoking ingredients for the restaurant, in an old wardrobe adapted for the purpose.  The resulting produce was so well received by customers that Rob, soon invested in his own smoking ovens and started to sell packed smoked produce for customers to take home.  Just months later they were successful in an application for a grant  to develop the smokehouse and shop, which will have its official opening during this Taste Lancashire Produce event on 23 June.

Commenting on the new facility Rob said “When we adapted the old wardrobe we were simply experimenting and hoping to develop new menu ideas but it’s taken off in such a big way, that we’ve happily consigned the wardrobe to storage and now have fantastic ovens that supply both the restaurant and shop. We already sell to a number of high quality hotels and restaurants in Lancashire and the Lake District and expect that business to grow as a result.”

“The Taste Lancashire Produce event will help us raise awareness of the new smokehouse and shop, and highlight The Redwell Inn as a destination for anyone who loves the real taste of Lancashire.  The lunchtime event offers visitors a specially created three course lunch for just £20, the chance to visit the new shop and smokehouse, as well as food demonstrations and the opportunity to meet and buy from some of our great local producers.”

As part of a new programme of activity to raise the profile of Lancashire produce, Marketing Lancashire has developed and will promote a series of these Taste Lancashire Produce dining experiences. The restaurants and producers will benefit directly from the income generated by consumers attending these events and through the creation, sourcing and celebration of these special Lancashire menus.

The marketing of this event forms part of the Food Connect programme, for which Marketing Lancashire has secured funding from Defra’s Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE).  The funding is to support food tourism activities, which includes the marketing of events which bring together suppliers, chefs, restaurateurs and customers, to demonstrate the breadth of local food on offer in Lancashire and the skills that can create exciting and ‘mouth watering’ dishes.
