The Big Event - Summer Campaign

Wednesday, 11th July 2012

SCHOOLS OUT – EVENTS ARE IN!

………..you’ll find them in Marketing Lancashire’s handy summer calendar, The Big Event with hundreds more on the visitlancashire.com, an easy to use, searchable database of things to do and places to visit – many of which are FREE.

Fetes, festivals, outdoor performances and even a world record-breaking attempt make for a busy summer, as well as attractions, museums and galleries all offering activities, workshops and family fun days to suit all ages and tastes.

Where else can you experience the last remaining Guild festival in England?  Join the thousands of people heading to Preston this summer to enjoy traditional celebrations that date back to Medieval times as well as a superb programme of events that includes Designer Wayne Hemingway’s acclaimed Vintage Festival 1-2 Sept, given a Lancashire twist and taking place alongside the Square Food Festival, featuring the great tastes of Lancashire on the city’s chic Winckley Square.  Head for one of Lancashire’s historic attractions for a magical evening with Peter Pan at Gawthorpe Hall 28 July, a family fun Skirmish at Samlesbury Hall 26 - 27 August or fascinating tales of 19th Century Lancaster in Lancaster Castle 13 September.

If furry creatures and the great outdoors make your day then don’t miss Chipping’s Agricultural Show 25 August, or letting the kids try their hand at Woodland Skills at Beacon Country Park Up Holland, or take one of many stimulating guided walks during Pendle Walking Festival; just browse the website to find one of Lancashire’s year-round nature attractions, all providing exciting days out that are sure to put roses in the cheeks.

Of course there are some significant  international sporting events taking place this summer, but Lancashire has its fair share of thrilling physical challenges including the Colne Grand Prix Cycle Race 18 July, Great British Tractor Pulling Championship at Great Eccleston 25-26 August, Mountain Bike Trail Race Days at Lee Quarry Rawtenstall and, of course, the annual Ride The Lights offering a cycler’s view of Blackpool Illuminations on a safe, family fun ride along the promenade on 28 August.

Marketing Director, Tony Openshaw, commenting on Marketing Lancashire’s summer campaign said “We have a real treasure chest of annual events and festivals in Lancashire which generations of families and visitors have always looked forward to, such as Blackpool Illuminations. This year we’re particularly fortunate, as we also have the chance to celebrate the once-every-twenty-years Preston Guild with a superb array of world class events in one city - creating lasting memories for visitors as well as proud Lancastrians.

“All over the county and along our stunning coastline there are more fantastic festivals and hundreds of activities offering hours of entertainment and interest for the summer months.  Rain or shine there’s so much to do on our own doorstep – enjoy Lancashire, it’s great to be here.”
