Lancashire Trending On Lancashire Day

3 December 2015

At the beginning of November 2015 Marketing Lancashire launched a social media campaign to help raise awareness of Lancashire and to get the county trending on Lancashire Day* 27 November.  Social media users were invited to show their love of Lancashire with photographs of their favourite Lancashire location or activity, in ‘the county where life feels good’ including the hashtags #LancashireDay #wherelifefeelsgood.

On Lancashire Day Marketing Lancashire was tweeting from the early hours of the morning and to add to the excitement awarded spot prizes** throughout the day, thanks to an array of items and experiences donated by colleagues from across the county. All of which contributed to #LancashireDay trending across the UK for an impressive 10 hours (approx 6am – 4pm).

Hundreds of images poured in through Marketing Lancashire and Visit Lancashire social media channels throughout the campaign (closed on 30 November), all of which will be included in one ultimate VIP Lancashire Day Prize, comprising a 3 night weekend break or a 4 night midweek stay in a Poppy Cottage at Ribby Hall Village (for up to 6 people), a year’s supply of Dewlay Lancashire Cheese and a year’s subscription to Lancashire Life magazine.

The judges from Ribby Hall Village, Dewlay and Lancashire Life now hav
e the task of selecting a winner, who will be notified by the end of December 2015.

Visit Lancashire and Marketing Lancashire were Lancashire Day’s ‘most engaging users’ and the day’s ‘most influential users’ included: @DianaVickers, Blackburn-born singer songwriter who shot to fame on the X Factor in 2008; @carlfogarty, Blackburn-born World Superbike Champion racer and ITV’s I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here ‘King of The Jungle’; @AlfieBoe, Fleetwood’s world-renowned opera singer; @AlviroPetersen, South African batsman and Lancashire County Cricketer; @WendiPeters, Blackburn-born actress and Coronation Street’s Cilla Battersby; @hayleysoraya (Hayley Tamaddon) Emmerdale and Coronation Street actress from Blackpool. Marketing Lancashire was also in conversation with ex-Lancastrians across Europe and as far afield as Canada and New Zealand.

Head of PR and Communications at Marketing Lancashire, Anna Izza said “#LancashireDay united the county and made it a very special day for Lancastrians all over the world and led to #LancashireDay trending for almost 10hours, at times second only to the promoted #BlackFriday.

“Lancastrians, at home and abroad, took the opportunity to engage with followers old and new, by the sharing of ‘happy Lancashire Day’ messages, photographs, films and blogs.

“Over the month-long campaign thousands of #Lancashireday #wherelifefeelsgood tweets have been retweeted and liked, with a potential reach of 44 million people.  It’s clear that wherever Lancastrians now choose to live, the bond with Lancashire culture, our traditional food and drink and stunning landscapes is unbreakable.”

*On the 27 November 1295 King Edward I invited Lancashire’s first representatives to attend Parliament. Today this historic event is marked by the reading of proclamations, swearing allegiance to the Queen, and by numerous events and activities taking place across the county to celebrate what we now call Lancashire Day (27 November).
