#LancashireDay trending UK Number 1 spot

2 December 2016

On 27 November, Lancashire Day 2016, #LancashireDay was trending at Number 1 in the UK and continued in the top 20 for over ten hours, with more messages, interactions and photos shared than ever before thanks to social media.

#LancashireDay 2016 had a potential reach of over 60 million people* (compared to 40 million in 2015), and connected with people in 924 locations across the world including Australia, USA, Saudi Arabia and Europe.  These included well known Lancastrians from the world of sport such as Olympic cyclist Steven Burke and Olympic pentathlete Sam Murray, as well as stars of TV, music and theatre Jodie Prenger, Alfie Boe and Melanie Sykes. Other notable support came from TV historian Dan Snow (@thehistoryguy 138K followers), who commented “Watching the sun come up on the Trough of Bowland in the heart of the world’s most beautiful county #LancashireDay”

Head of PR & Communications, Anna Izza said “This year it certainly felt like the whole county was behind #LancashireDay, with support and good wishes flooding in from all over the world; from ex-pat policemen in Australia to stars of TV and sport, their interactions kept #LancashireDay trending for most of the day.

“As partners of the Northern Powerhouse Marketing Lancashire also had superb support from @NPHInfo, the official Northern Powerhouse account from HM Government, with these and other government offices highlighting the county’s recently launched Lancashire economic narrative and #WeAreLancashire campaign.”

At the beginning of November Marketing Lancashire launched a social media campaign inviting the county to ‘show the world what it means to be Lancastrian’ to help raise awareness of Lancashire Day which takes place each year on 27th November*.

Social media users were asked to illustrate their love of Lancashire landscape, food and culture with photography shared throughout November, using #LancashireDay.

Anna Izza added “Over 600 images have been added to our VIP prize draw to win a spa break at Stanley House Hotel & Spa, a year’s supply of Lancashire Cheese and a year’s subscription to Lancashire Life; a prize that has well and truly captured the attention of lovers of all things Lancashire.”

The VIP prize draw winner will be notified by the end of December 2016.  On Lancashire Day itself a number of spot prizes were provided by partners: Crafty Vintage, Dearden Tea Rooms, Dewlay Cheese, J.Atkinsons & Co, Merlin Entertainments, St Annes Beach Huts, Thwaites. Winners of these prizes were notified via social media on 27 & 28 November.
