Winning smiles for English Tourism Week

Thursday, 17th March 2016

Marketing Lancashire’s finale to English Tourism Week (5-13 March) was the official presentation of the VIP prize to the winner of the #LancashireDay photography challenge. The presentation took place at Ribby Hall Village with the winner David Fort and his family on Saturday 12 March.

English Tourism Week is organised by VisitEngland and is a week-long celebration of events showcasing the quality and vibrancy of the visitor experiences and the value the tourism industry brings to the country.

On Lancashire Day (27 November 2015) Marketing Lancashire helped keep #LancashireDay trending on Twitter for over ten hours, aided by the invitation to share photographs that best expressed the Lancashire strapline – where life feels good.

Throughout the day spot prizes for the best photos were awarded with all images then included in the running to win an amazing VIP prize provided by partners and judges Ribby Hall Village, Dewlay Cheese and Lancashire Life Magazine.

Hundreds of photos were submitted but the judges all selected a photo by David Fort, from Padiham, which was taken on a family walk to Aitken Woods and the Pendle Sculpture Park, near Barley.  David and family collected their VIP prize on Saturday 12 March, during English Tourism Week, at Ribby Hall Village.

David’s winning #LancashireDay photo features his daughters Mia, aged 12 and Ruby aged 8, climbing over the gate at Black Moss reservoir with the stunning backdrop of Pendle Hill.
Anna Izza, Head of PR and Communications at Marketing Lancashire said “The judges agreed that the photograph captured the very essence of a grand day out in the Lancashire countryside.

“Mia and Ruby look to be having great fun, they’ve dressed for all eventualities and this sunny day walk in one of the county’s most scenic locations has not only made them feel good, its provided the family with memories to cherish.  They’ve now got a super family holiday at Ribby Hall Village to look forward to, a year’s supply of delicious Dewlay Cheese and lots more inspiration for exploring the county by way of a year’s subscription to Lancashire Life.”

David, his wife Alex and daughters Mia and Ruby are keen walkers and most weekends head out into the countryside with their dog Chico. David comments

“The girls love to get outdoors there’s always something good to explore or to find out about in Lancashire. The witches sculpture trail in Aitken Wood provides excitement and is educational, with the history of the Pendle Witches told in an interesting way especially for the younger ones. They run around spotting cobwebs, spiders, wood sculptures and ceramic markers and, at the end of the day, we get tired happy kids off to bed early.”

** Terms & Condition apply: The short break at Ribby Hall Village is subject to availability, there is no cash alternative available. The year’s supply of Dewlay Lancashire Cheese, is based on average adult consumption. This will take the form of a £10 voucher each month to be redeemed in person at the Dewlay Shop or as a single transaction to the value of £120. Travel to both Ribby Hall Village and Dewlay not included. The years subscription to Lancashire Life is for mailing to UK address only.
