Tangerine Dream Come True

24 May 2010

Blackpool FC Heroes welcome

After an absence of thirty nine years the whole Fylde coast and North West is celebrating Blackpool FC’s  (Tangerines) return to the Premiership, following their triumphant 3-2 win over Cardiff in the Coca-Cola Championship Play Off  Final , at Wembley on Saturday 22 May.

The team will have a heroes welcome on Monday 24th with an official victory parade along the promenade from 4.30pm (starting at Gynn Sq), with over 30,000 people expected to attend.

The promotion of Blackpool FC will make a huge contribution to the reinvention of Blackpool, which has already benefited from major redevelopment and investment towards creating a 21st Century resort.

Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board (LBTB) campaigns over the last year, have showcased and reintroduced the resort to a much wider public, through creative and award-winning social media marketing.  This year, greater emphasis and resources are being placed on Blackpool’s appeal as a conference and meeting destination.

Blackpool hotels are well placed to cater for the corporate hospitality market and this could be a boost to out-of-season bookings, and of course catering for visiting teams, their directors and the media which will be coming to the resort, some after a long absence.

Tony Openshaw, Director of Marketing, for Lancashire & Blackpool Tourist Board, said: “Following interest from companies who were making enquiries almost as soon as the final whistle was blown, we are looking to maximize the business tourism opportunities that this fantastic achievement brings’’.

"The result is a huge fillip for Blackpool and the whole of the Fylde Coast, which will benefit in terms of increased tourism spend, with business people wanting to tie in meetings with a visit to the Premiership’s newest club.”
