Launch of New Training Programme

17 June 2010

Gold standard training

Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board (LBTB) leads on and delivers Welcome to Excellence Training, the UK’s most successful customer service training initiative, across Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Lancashire.

The most recent addition to this extensive portfolio is a new one-day course Welcome Host Gold, which had its inaugural session at Number One, South Beach, Blackpool at the end of May.

Welcome Host Gold gives participants the latest core customer service skills, reflecting current techniques and best practice. It is a highly flexible course, which can be tailored to include content and knowledge specific to destinations and businesses. Encompassing everything from the welcome customers receive and how you connect with them, to understanding what exactly you can offer, dealing with difficult situations, boosting business and delivering excellent service.

Marcus Harmer, Choice Manager for Choice Hotels based at the Claremont Hotel, Blackpool, was one of the first delegates and commented,

“Customer care is at the core of my day to day work; motivating staff to go the ‘extra mile’ and deliver the very best possible service.  Training is paramount in our industry and there is no reason why a 2 or 3 star hotel, can’t deliver 5 star service and we constantly aim to exceed expectations.

In this respect, the Welcome Host Gold training day has proved invaluable.  The group discussions demonstrated that certain issues are not at all unique and sharing solutions and new ideas, was extremely useful. This fresh approach to staff training and new motivation techniques can easily be incorporated into our business.”

The courses are open to delegates from across the tourism industry and can be adapted for delivery in-house, with generous discounts for members of Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board.  Participants also have the option to gain a nationally recognised City and Guilds qualification, through a multiple choice examination taken after the training.

Claire Smith owner of multi award-winning Number One, South Beach, Blackpool was happy to host the inaugural session and believes "Ongoing training is an essential element for success -not just for employees but for employers and business owners alike.”
