16 November 2011

The event was an opportunity to highlight some of Lancashire’s fine food producers and allowed LBTB to represent tourism businesses and highlight the county’s attractions to other Members of Parliament.  As well as displays, visitor guides and other information about Lancashire, LBTB sourced a Lancashire hamper from Bashall Barn – the prize for the winner of our Lancashire quiz, designed to test MPs' knowledge of the county.

Mike Wilkinson, Managing Director of Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board said “The tourist board champions Lancashire Day each year and highlights the events taking place in towns and villages across Lancashire. It’s a day when Lancastrians everywhere can reflect on the history, achievements and character of this wonderful county, sharing their pride and excitement at being part of its rich and unique heritage.  We are extremely grateful to Lancashire born Eric Ollerenshaw OBE MP, for inviting us to the House of Commons to help raise the profile of this special day and the very many successful tourism businesses that make such a significant contribution to the Lancashire economy.”

Lancashire Day itself is celebrated each year on 27th November, marking the day in 1295 when Lancashire’s first elected representatives were called to Westminster by King Edward I to attend what later became known as the ‘Model Parliament’.

The event was supported by Lancashire County Council and is part of wider efforts to involve Lancashire's MPs in efforts to boost the county economy.
