NEW GENERAL MANAGER FOR THE BLACKPOOL TOWER

As part of the exciting changes in The Blackpool Tower, Merlin Entertainments is delighted to announce the appointment of The Blackpool Tower’s new General Manager, Kate Shane.

Kate joins The Blackpool Tower from a local construction company and brings with her a wealth of leisure management knowledge following 24 years of visitor attraction experience with First Leisure and Leisure Parcs.

Kate, who has lived in Blackpool for over 30 years said: “I cannot believe my luck; I’m really looking forward to bringing together what is already an iconic attraction with The Blackpool Tower Ballroom and The Blackpool Tower Circus with the juxtaposition of two new state of the art attractions, The Blackpool Tower Eye and The Blackpool Tower Dungeon.”

“I am also looking forward to welcoming visitors from the local area as well as from further afield, but too many local people have not visited this amazing attraction. I am sure that will change with the new free entry which means they can come in just for coffee or to look round then of course visit one or all of our exciting attractions.”

Kate, who is the first female General Manger The Blackpool Tower has had will be responsible for the overall management of The Blackpool Tower including 4 of its exciting attractions – The Blackpool Tower Eye with 4D cinema, The Blackpool Tower Ballroom, The Blackpool Tower Circus and The Blackpool Tower Jungle Jims. She will work closely with the new General Manager of The Blackpool Tower Dungeon as well as the General Managers of Merlin’s other Blackpool attractions Madame Tussauds Blackpool, SEA LIFE and Pirate Adventure Golf.

“I am keen to play a key role within the future development of the resort, including Madame Tussauds, Sea Life and the other visitor attractions in Blackpool. It’s an exciting time for the town and I’m so pleased to have a part in it.”

Merlin Entertainments Head of the Blackpool Cluster Iain Hawkins, said: “The Tower is an iconic building, and at the heart of the town, and of Merlin’s own involvement with Blackpool so we are delighted to have someone with Kate’s wide experience of the industry and of the town to manage it.  Not only does it have the 5 separate attractions but the new free entry strategy and our plans for new restaurant and retail outlets will we believe greatly increase visitor numbers and Kate’s experience and knowledge of this Grade 1 listed building will be invaluable.”

The Blackpool Tower is due to reopen fully after the first phase of its major restorationon September 1st including  2 brand new experiences for Blackpool, The Blackpool Tower Eye with 4D cinema and The Blackpool Tower Dungeon.
