Monday, 1st July 2013

Visitlancashire.com has been named by the British Travel Awards (BTAs) as one of the shortlisted contenders for the Best UK Holiday County or Region Award 2013

Visitlancashire.com is the definitive guide to Lancashire.  Developed and managed by Marketing Lancashire, the website has around 1 million unique users a year and offers visitors a comprehensive guide to places to stay, attractions and activities for all ages and tastes, places to eat quality local food and hundreds of events, itineraries, trails and ideas for things to do.  Lancashire attracts over 60 million visitors each year and many of these use visitlancashire.com to create bespoke holidays, quality short breaks and unforgettable days out from the comfort of their own home or on the move, via the new mobile site and visitlancashire app.

Ruth Connor, Chief Executive of Marketing Lancashire said “It is the first time that visitlancashire.com has entered these prestigious awards and it’s a real privilege to be amongst such strong contenders.

“Whether it’s booking accommodation or finding the best places to eat out, checking opening times to attractions or taking advantage of the latest special offers, visitlancashire.com points visitors in the right direction.  Lancashire culture is traditional but never dull, its people are welcoming without being insincere and its landscape stretches from gentle rolling hills and valleys to long beaches and dramatic coastlines. It’s a county of genuine contrasts that appeals across the board.

“We’re very proud of the success of visitlancashire.com and constantly strive to improve it for the benefit of our visitors and for those partners who invest in its content and future development.  From great castles, heritage and nature attractions, world class museums, galleries and theatres, to cycle rides, rollercoasters and the iconic Blackpool Tower -   we hope that anyone who loves Lancashire and enjoys using our website will vote for visitlancashire.com and take it to the finals of this year’s British Travel Awards.”

BTA’s chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said: “Visitlancashire.com is to be congratulated on reaching the finals of the prestigious British Travel Awards.  The largest consumer voted awards programme in the UK, The BTAs are designed to reward the best companies in travel, and the winning accolade is the benchmark for excellence when it comes to finding out who really is the best in the business of travel for the UK consumer. Good luck to

The next stage sees the shortlisted companies put before the public vote with voting promoted through BTA media partners which include The Trinity Mirror Group and the Global Radio stations, including LBC and Classic FM.  Shortlisted companies are also encouraged to lobby their happy customers for votes!

The winners will be the companies with the most votes - in 2012 over one million votes were cast with the voting process and results scrutinized and audited by independent auditors Deloitte LLP. The winners of the 2013 British Travel Awards will be announced at a glittering ceremony on 31 October at the Battersea Evolution in Battersea Park, London.
