St George needs YOU!

Wednesday, 22nd October 2014

Are you called George? Is your dad, brother, uncle, or even your cousin twice removed called George? If so, The Lytham St Annes St Georges Day Charity Festival needs every single one of you!

April 2015 could be your chance to be part of a Guinness World Record attempt - for the most people with the same name in one place. It’s time to spread the word, draft in everyone you know called George and plan a trip to Lytham St Annes on Saturday 25 April 2015.

In its seventh year, and with a new team at the helm, both the event’s chair and vice chair have pledged to make this the best festival yet. Bob Gallagher, chairman commented: “The rest of the nation may be more concerned about gearing up for Christmas and New Year 2014 but in Lytham St Annes preparations are already underway for St George’s Day 2015.

“It’s exactly six months until the event starts and we hope that this world record attempt will be the thing that finally makes the nation sit up and realise that St Georges Day deserves the same recognition that’s given to St Patrick’s Day.”

To entice the nations’ Georges to the picturesque town of Lytham St Annes, every single George will be automatically entered into a grand prize draw.

“We’re keeping the prize under wraps for the time being, but it will definitely be something everyone will want to get their hands on,” added Bob.

“We’re really hoping every George in the UK and their families back our attempt. The last time the record was broken was in Dubai where almost 2,000 Mohammeds got together for the opening of a shopping mall, so the stakes have already been set pretty high.”

To submit a Guinness World record costs more than £4,000 which is a huge amount of money to source for a charity event. Thanks to Lytham-based VetPlus, this cost has been covered and the festival organisers are looking forward to smashing the world record.

“Without this sponsorship we wouldn’t be able to go ahead with the world record attempt but thanks to VetPlus we are able to make it happen. So let’s rally together and break two records, one for the most Georges and one for the most money raised during the St George’s Day festival,” concluded Bob.

Those who are interested in registering to be part of the world record attempt should visit event’s website, follow @StGeorgesFest on Twitter and use the hash tag #GeorgeWorldRecord.
