The Highwayman Re-launches Partnership with St John’s Hospice

9 October 2014

New era for The Highwayman with the arrival of new Head Chef –  Jason “Bruno” Birkbeck.

Partnership with St John’s Hospice remains firm with latest donation and launch of charity dinner.

An Evening with Jason “Bruno” Birkbeck and the Region’s Finest Producers in Aid of St John’s Hospice will take place on Thursday 13th November.

Ribble Valley Inn’s Highwayman Pub in Nether Burrow near Kirkby Lonsdale opened to critical acclaim in 2007 – scooping, amongst other things, the UK Pub Chef of the Year Award in 2009, and representing Nigel Haworth’s signature approach to real, local, seasonal food and premium pub dining experiences.

Now, after 7 successful years, the team decided it was time for a refresh of the premises, and to usher in a new chapter for the pub with the arrival of Head Chef Jason “Bruno” Birkbeck.

A Cumbria lad, hailing from Kendal, and originally learning his craft at Kendal Catering College, Jason (or Bruno as he is known in the industry) has made a return to his roots and settled down in the region with his wife (and former pastry chef) Emma and young family.

Although with this and a mini-refurb of the venue it’s been ‘all change’ for The Highwayman this year, their longstanding partnership with St John’s Hospice remains firmly in place.

In fact, Bruno and his new team were keen to cement the relationship by paying the hospice a visit, presenting them with the latest donations from the restaurant, and by announcing a charity dinner in aid of the organisation.  The trip to the hospice is also a chance for Bruno to meet the nurses and find out more about the amazing support that the Hospice provides.

For the past 4 years, The Highwayman has been giving 20p from each and every cover sold to St John’s Hospice as an on-going means of support, but this new event sees the start of a fresh chapter, which aims to raise even more money for the organisation.

Bruno’s first fundraising charity dinner for the Hospice will take place on Thursday November 13th when he will be serving up a bespoke 3 course dinner showcasing the very best of the local suppliers he works with from Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cumbria. A real feast of an event, guests can look forward to a Champagne reception, a fabulous raffle and silent auction – a gourmet night to remember!

Jason “Bruno” Birkbeck commented…
“I’m delighted that we’re continuing to our work with St John’s Hospice. They’re a truly incredible organisation, whose work I’m already familiar with. However, I’m keen to meet the team, and talk about how we can help raise more money than ever this year. Our charity dinner will be a night to remember and I think a great way of kicking off our fundraising pledge”

Tickets are priced at £35 with £10 donated to the St John’s Hospice for every ticket sold.  Tickets are now on sale and available from The Highwayman. Customers should call the restaurant to book. 015242 73338
