BBC Radio Lancashire’s Record breaker Gilly joins the Duck Trail

12 December 2014

Old Holly Farm is home to lots of different animals, but this winter a rather special duck has nested there – the Aquaducked Music Duck, designed by BBC Lancashire’s record breaker John Gillmore.

Aquaducked is the brain child of local businessman Barry Cole, of Lancaster Canal Boats, with the aim to raise funds and awareness for Marie Curie, Macmillan Cancer Care and CLIC Sergeant.

As part of the campaign 11 large and unique ducks have been designed by local celebrities, including Dave Spikey, Wayne Hemingway, a mystery Preston North End player and of course Gilly. The ducks then form part of a Duck Trail across Lancashire, with people encouraged to follow the trail, find the ducks and then take a #duckselfie – with the best selfie winning a prize.

The celebrities are now all visiting their own ducks and signing them, with Gilly popping along to Old Holly Farm in Garstang to autograph his creation. Gilly has also been in the news earlier this year when he broke a Guiness World Record in aid of Children in Need by completing the most number of live, face-to-face interviews on the radio in a 24 hour period. Gilly beat the previous record of 254 interviews set in 2009 in Italy, by 39, completing 293 interviews.

Speaking on behalf of the farm, General Manager Alison Pye said “When Barry came to see us, we were delighted to be one of his locations and be part of the trail. It’s such a fantastic idea and great to be raising awareness of these important charities. Our visitors are certainly enjoying seeing Gilly’s duck and taking their selfies”.

The ducks will be in various locations across Lancashire until the end of February, when they will then be auctioned off in a Gala night  at Blackpool Pleasure Beach with all the money raised going to the three partner charities.
