VisitBlackpool Season Launch 2014

2 April 2014

VisitBlackpool today unveiled its plans for the 2014 season.

More than 200 hoteliers, attraction bosses and business owners packed into the Winter Gardens newly refurbished Derham Lounge to hear plans for the UK’s most popular seaside resort over the next six months.

It’s an exciting year for Blackpool as it welcomes international stage show Mamma Mia! for a 12 week run over the summer and the widely-anticipated new attraction Illuminasia opens at Easter.

In addition, the Blackpool Resort Pass has been relaunched for the year, VisitBlackpool has an extensive events programme planned including Armed Forces Week, the Blackpool Airshow and the International Firework Championships and Lancashire-based radio station Rock FM was recently announced as media partner for the resort’s Illuminations Switch-On night.

Cllr Graham Cain, Blackpool Council Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure, said: “We are delighted so many people attended the VisitBlackpool Season Launch. Most of our fantastic attractions host their own coffee mornings at the start of the season but we felt it was important that we host a VisitBlackpool event too so that people can see what is happening across the whole resort.

“2014 is an exciting year for Blackpool. We can’t wait to see Illuminasia once it opens to the public and excitement is really building about Mamma Mia! But this is only part of it, we have a great events programme planned throughout the year and of course the Illuminations will be shining for an additional week again until Sunday November 9.”

Exhibitors at the launch included VisitBlackpool, a variety of the resort’s attractions, representatives from the night-time economy and Quality in Tourism – the agency tasked with advising accommodation providers and attractions on how to gain national accreditation.

Stakeholders were also given the opportunity to meet and chat with the VisitBlackpool team including representatives from Marketing, Events, Business Tourism, Design, Digital and the Tourist Information Centre

Cllr Cain added: “Blackpool’s businesses excel at working together and it was important that our partners and stakeholders in resort were able to take part in our Season Launch.

“At the end of the day everyone in the tourism industry relies on visitors and it is vital that we continue to work together to ensure we are all positive about our magnificent resort so that every business can prosper and succeed.”
