All aboard Wyre’s new i-bus

8 April 2014

An innovative one-stop shop for volunteering and tourist information in Wyre will be officially launched this week.

The i-bus is a unique mobile service combining a Visitor Information Centre for Cleveleys and the Volunteer Wyre outreach programme, which promotes volunteer opportunities and services across the borough.

To see for yourself, why not come along to Marine Hall in Fleetwood for a celebration event on Wednesday 9 April from 2pm to 5pm. The Mayor of Wyre, Councillor John Hodgkinson, will carry out an official opening at 2.30pm.

The event also features a free family flag making workshop where a local artist will help you design and make your own flag using images about volunteering and coastal tourism.

Farmer Parrs of Fleetwood will also be bringing some of their animals – so come along and meet them.

Councillor Peter Gibson, Leader of Wyre Council, commented: “Volunteering and the visitor economy are two key focuses for the council. There are so many opportunities available for both of these and we want to spread the word as widely as possible.

"We can do this far more effectively with a mobile bus that can go out to where people are already gathering."

From 10 April the i-bus will be parked on the promenade at Cleveleys every Thursday to Saturday, providing a full visitor information service. This will include information on local attractions and events both in Wyre and across the North West. A ticket sales service for National Express, travel and transport, theatres, events and attractions will also be available.

From Monday to Wednesday the i-bus will be out and about around Wyre promoting the services of voluntary organisations and the benefits of becoming a volunteer, to local residents.

Wednesday's launch will be held alongside the annual Wyre Together Showcase event that will be held inside Marine Hall from 2pm to 5pm. The showcase is free and open to all to come along and find out about the services of more than 70 community groups exhibiting inside.
