Proud Prestonians

21 May 2014

Preston has been named in a new ‘top ten of the happiest places to live in Great Britain’, following a substantial survey of 50,000 people, conducted by RightMove and revealed today (21/5/14).

The survey asked people to rank 12 distinct factors about how happy they feel in their homes and communities. These factors included, pride; wellbeing; investment and space.  The scores in each category were then added together to create a top ten ranking of general ‘happiness’ and it was here that Preston attained their position at number 8.

Commenting on Preston’s ranking in Great Britain’s Top Ten Ruth Connor, Chief Executive of Marketing Lancashire said

We believe people are generally happier living in Lancashire because it’s such a great county, so we’re not at all surprised to see Preston in the top ten of a national survey.  When Marketing Lancashire developed the VisitLancashire brand, focus groups across the country highlighted our welcoming, friendly character and the incredible choice on offer to visitors and residents; this resulted in our logo strapline ‘where life feels good’.  Preston, in particular, offers the work, study and life balance expected in a vibrant and safe city where you’ll find plenty of successful businesses along with cultural attractions, great nightlife and generous green spaces. The added bonus is Prestonians are only ever half an hour from the coastal delights of Blackpool and Lytham or the rural beauty of the Forest of Bowland and the Ribble Valley. With the best of all worlds, is it any wonder that the People of Preston are amongst the happiest in the UK. We think not.”

On an individual level the survey also concluded that Preston was the most proud and Blackburn ranked first for investment. Lancaster also made the national top 10 for wellbeing, recreation and safety.
