The Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival

25 July 2014

It’s 50 years this month since ‘House Of The Rising Sun’ shot to number one in the UK charts….

….and 50 years on, at the 25th Anniversary of The Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival, the singer of this iconic song will be making a very rare live appearance.

Eric Burdon and The Animals will be performing this – and other classics – on the International Stage on Sunday night, as part of this very special milestone event.

He is just one of the internationally-acclaimed names lined-up to play over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Others include Eric Bibb, Lucky Peterson, Eric Sardinas, Otis Grand, Andy Fairweather Low and Roy Young.

And with just four weeks to go, the countdown has already begun.

From authentic electric blues, through to rock, jazz and acoustic sets, there really is something for every one of the thousands of visitors expected to descend on Colne at the end of August, all eager for yet another incredible four full days of live music from an amazing collection of R&B artistes.

The Yardbirds will get the party started at the International Stage on the opening night – Friday, August 22nd; followed by Band Of Friends and music maestro Eric Sardinas.

Saturday will see some more outstanding musicians take to the International Stage, including Jethro Tull’s Martin Barre, Lucky Peterson and the hugely popular Eric Bibb.

The Snake Davis Jazz Band will bring a different beat to Sunday afternoon, followed by Connie Lush & Blues Shouter, Mike Sanchez, Jim Diamond’s Blues Trail, Eric Burdon and The Animals and Roy Young will bring the day to a close.

Monday’s line-up consists of Otis Grand, Andy Fairweather Low and Dr Feelgood, amongst other blues favourites!

As well as the International Stage, there will also be some favourites and new faces keeping the music going on the British and Acoustic Stages. There will be some fresh, new talent performing throughout the Festival as part of the Jessica Foxley Unsigned Initiative; and there will be back-to-back music at the five official roadhouses – The Crown Hotel, Colne Legion, The Admiral Lord Rodney, Colne and Nelson Rugby Club and The Green Chimney.

Festival organiser, Alison Goode, said: “This is our 25th Festival and we have tried to pull-out all the stops when choosing the artistes. As usual we want to cater for everyone and every musical taste and we have hopefully done that. Our aim was to get back some of the favourites who have performed over the last 25 years, such as Otis Grand, Eric Bibb and Eric Sardinas and mix in some new ones with them.

“Full Festival tickets are selling really well and with just four weeks to go, if there is a band or musician you want to see, don’t leave it too late to get your ticket. Last year we sold out two nights, this year we would like to make it four!”
