WW1 events throughout Lancashire

25 July 2014

LANCASHIRE County Council's museums and libraries are helping people to discover what life was like during WW1.

From Monday, July 28 to Tuesday, August 12, a series of fascinating events will explore the lives of local WW1 families, using everyday items such as food and clothing to illustrate the contrast between life today and the hardships of 1914.

The events will also include a reading from Private Peaceful, Michael Morpurgo's poignant novel set during WW1, which is the selection for this year's Lancashire Reads.

The book follows the memories of a young First World War soldier, Private Tommo Peaceful, from his early childhood adventures in rural Devon to the battles and injustices of the war on the frontline. !

Ann Marsh, the county council's cultural services development manager, said: "World War One changed the lives of individuals, families and communities in Lancashire.

"Through our extensive programme which commemorates the start of the war, we are holding a number of events in libraries and museums which will appeal particularly to families.

"These will include events comparing family life in 1914 with family life today, based on the novel "Private Peaceful" by Michael Morpurgo."
