Food and drink festival added to Switch On line-up

13 August 2014

A huge food and drink festival is coming to Blackpool.

Citylicious Events will be hosting the Switch-On Food and Drink Festival on the Promenade over the Illuminations weekend of 29, 30 and 31 August.

The Switch-On Food & Drink Festival, located either side of Central Pier, will feature a variety of entertainment in the company of artisan producers, pop-up restaurants, premium brands, international street food, master mixologists and top local chefs.

With a focus on locally sourced produce, the Chef’s Theatre will host top local chefs cooking their favourite dishes and inspiring the audience to recreate those meals at home. Drinks experts will give their professional opinions from the world of wine, beer and spirits in the Drink’s Theatre and some of the UK’s top mixologists will be mixing and shaking up some fruity concoctions!

Adding to this will be the Cake & Bake, Chocolate & Dessert Theatre Tent where top patisserie chefs and chocolatiers demonstrate their favourite recipes and give cooking tips to those with a sweet tooth.

Some of the UK’s most exciting street food vendors will be serving up a wide variety of tasty delicacies from around the world and artisan producers, kitchen ware & crafters will be selling local speciality produce for you to take home.

Iain Fenwick of Citylicious Events commented: “This event is free to everyone, we want to put on a celebration of Britain’s multi-cultural society and give a platform to showcase the diversity of the British food culture.

“Events like these should not be exclusive and we want to make this celebration available to everyone so people can discover what new exciting foods are out there. Street Food is cool, mobile isn’t just about technology nowadays, some of the tastiest foods you can enjoy are served to you in a styrofoam container on the corner of your high street.

“What’s more is they are made from locally sourced produce and as Citylicious is a big fan of the ‘farm to table’ initiative we cannot think of anytime better than bringing it all together during one of the country’s most iconic celebrations.”

Cllr Graham Cain, Cabinet Member for Tourism and Leisure, said: “I am delighted to announce that a food and drink festival is joining the line-up for the Switch-On weekend.

“We expect there to be thousands of people on the Promenade during that weekend and this is an added bonus on top of the three quality shows and the Illuminations themselves.

“It is the first time an event of this type will be held on Blackpool’s Promenade and I’m sure it will be very popular with residents and visitors alike.

“In order to keep attracting people to Blackpool we need to keep updating and improving our offer. I think this year we have put together a really tempting package for people visiting our vibrant town. This complements our Blackpool’s Back campaign that is running throughout the summer.

“For as little as £15 people can enjoy professional entertainment on Friday, Saturday or Sunday night and also enjoy this fantastic food and drink festival on the Promenade.”

On the 29th August Little Mix will headline a star-studded concert before comedian Peter Kay flicks the famous switch. On Saturday night it’s the turn of the West End musicals to thrill the crowds with performances from Thriller Live, Chicago and Dirty Dancing amongst others. The final concert of the weekend on Sunday 31 August is headlined by Rebecca Ferguson and feature Atomic Kitten, 911 and Liberty X.
