Boost to Town Bed Nights

7 August 2014

Accommodation providers in the town are already starting to reap the benefits as Vintage Festival by the Sea organisers continue to confirm the entertainment programme for the  weekend extravaganza, set to take place on 6 & 7th September.

The town’s accommodation providers are already reporting a significant increase in bookings over the weekend, which illustrates how cultural events can really boost a town.

The town is set to come alive as the expanded Vintage Festival returns to Morecambe and celebrates the 20th century music, dance, fashion and design that has made Britain great.
The event will provide a weekend of fabulous entertainment with something for everyone, combining a mix of dancing, music, fashion, glamour, film, classic cars, delicious street food, creative workshops, kid’s activities, street theatre, a vintage fairground, vintage bus tours and an eclectic vintage and up-cycled market place to browse vintage treasures.

As well as a free programme there are a number of ticketed events including the highly sought after The Soul Casino featuring a line-up of the best northern soul and funk DJs in the UK, The Warehouse with the original Hacienda DJs playing 80s and 90s house music and Let it Rock a celebration of 50s Rock n Roll at the Platform, which are expected to drive visitors from all over the UK who will be looking to stay overnight at local hotels, Bed & Breakfasts and campsites.

“Many accommodation providers were full to capacity last year with visitors attending the Festival. Over 7,000 people came to Morecambe last year to experience the event and we are  hoping that we will build on that number as we expand the mix of entertainment and excitement on offer,” comments Wayne Hemingway.

“This is a wonderful celebration of all things British and I am delighted that my birth town, Morecambe, is at the heart of the action. All local businesses in the town can capitalise on the expected crowds that weekend and will hopefully be geared up to give new people visiting the area a taste of real northwest hospitality and to experience those wonderful view across
Morecambe Bay

Wayne continues: “ Room bookings are already up on last year for the event which is fantastic. Historically people rented out their rooms in the town in decades gone by and we are seeing the rise of this again with platforms like ‘airbnb’ so that no matter what your budget you can come and enjoy the town and the events for the weekend.”

The Midland Hotel, one of the UK’s most iconic historic seafront hotels is at the heart of the action again and will host Vintage Festival stalwart events, including the big band sounds at The Torch.

If camping is more your thing or you want to stay at a guest house then there are a large number of places to stay that are in partnership with the event including The Lothersdale, the Clarendon Hotel, the Berkeley, Craigwell Hotel, Regent Leisure Park and Redbank Farm, all of which offer fantastic rates and no matter what your budget all of them offer a fantastic view across Morecambe Bay to the Lake District!
