22 October 2015

Work on the Prairie Sports Village in Burnley has been officially completed with the formal handover of the keys to the new building that is set for opening on Monday, 26th October.
Developers Barnfield Construction have carried out the £2.5m project for Burnley Leisure, bringing state-of-the-art leisure facility to the town.

Gerard Vinton, Burnley Leisure’s chief executive, said: “It was great to receive the keys to the building today. The handover marks the culmination of the development what is unique for the area and will not only serve the people of Burnley, but also bring visitors in the area from the surrounding golf clubs.

“We’re very pleased to have had such great support from Burnley Council, Sport England and Football Foundation amongst other organisations which contributed greatly to making this project possible.”

The new sports centre, owned by Burnley Council and operated by Burnley Leisure, includes a 16-bay golf driving range, golf pro shop, multi-use activity studio, Simply Classic Bistro and Bar and the golf and football academy complex, which boasts a number of conference and meeting rooms along with Sky TV and free Wi-Fi .

A purpose built full teaching facility is equipped with golf simulator and GC2 launch monitor, which allows players to track their results and enhance the performance.

PGA golf professional James Major will be operating a coaching programme from the site for everyone interested in playing the sport.

Outside facilities include the FA approved 3G floodlit football pitch and new changing rooms, which replaced the old ones at the site that were demolished.

Charlotte Pickup, marketing manager at Barnfield Construction, commented: “We are delighted to have officially handed over the Prairie Sports Village project today. The facility is going to be a fantastic addition to the great leisure amenities already available in Burnley.”

Councillor Bea Foster, executive member for leisure and culture at Burnley Council, said: “The Prairie is a shining example of organisations’ joint commitment to improve the sporting facilities in Burnley. It’s a great investment and it is good to see the project reaching completion and bringing benefits to the community and visitors from surrounding areas.
“I encourage people to come and see for themselves all that there is on offer from golf lessons to mouth-watering lunch from the bistro.”
