Top West End Shows Head to Blackpool for 2016

5 October 2015

Blackpool Winter Gardens today announces three best-selling shows for 2016.
Kicking off the year in February will be family favourite JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, this will be followed in the Spring with Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers and summer sees a Blackpool Premiere of hit stage show Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story on Stage.

The announcement for 2016 comes as the Winter Gardens prepares to showcase the World Premiere of Last Night A DJ Saved My Life starring David Hasselhoff.

Winter Gardens Managing Director Michael Williams said 2016 is lining up to be another great year for the venue and Blackpool.

Mr Williams said: “We are delighted to be announcing these three shows today. Joseph and Blood Brothers have been to the Opera House on a number of occasions and are always incredibly popular. Dirty Dancing has enjoyed great success across the globe and this will be the first time Blackpool audiences get to see this fantastic new production.

“Our calendar for 2015 has been phenomenal with such a huge variety of shows on the stage including the eight-week run of Cats, Lord of the Dance, Jesus Christ Superstar and most recently Tommy, The Who’s Rock Opera. We still have the Glenn Miller Story with Tommy Steele, the Hoff in Last Night a DJ Saved My Life and Paul Nicholas in A Christmas Carol to come so to be in a position to start announcing next year too is great.

“We aim to bring as much variety to the Opera House stage next year to ensure there is something on offer for everyone and we look forward to making even more announcements soon.”

X-Factor winner Joe McElderry will return to the Blackpool Opera House from Tuesday February 9 to Saturday 13 when he takes the lead in the UK’s longest running musical JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT.

Joe has only just left Blackpool after starring in a brand new production of Tommy and said he is looking forward to coming back so soon.

He said: "I'm thrilled to be coming to Blackpool Opera House as part of the Joseph tour. I've just spent three weeks there and so can't wait to go back next February.

"I was delighted when I was offered the role and to be visiting a town where I know family audiences love to come and see shows is fantastic. I look forward to seeing you in Blackpool soon."

Blood Brothers will then take to the Opera House stage from Monday April 4 to Saturday 9. Hailed as one of the best musicals of all time, Blood Brothers has triumphed across the globe telling the captivating and moving story of twin boys separated at birth, only to be reunited by a twist of fate and a mother's haunting secret.

And from August 11 the worldwide phenomenon Dirty Dancing will begin a brand new touring production at Blackpool Opera House.

The classic story of Baby and Johnny, featuring the hit songs 'Hungry Eyes', ‘Hey! Baby’, ‘Do You Love Me?’ and the heart stopping ‘(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life’, begins a new
nationwide tour in Blackpool following two blockbuster West End runs and two hit UK Tours. The show will run until Tuesday August 30.

Tickets for all three shows will go on sale at 10am today. For more information go to www.wintergardensblackpool.co.uk
