Helmshore Mills Textile Museum celebrates Lancashire Day

17 November 2015

Helmshore Mills Textile Museum will celebrate Lancashire Day in a traditional way on Friday 27 November.

A Lancashire menu will be on offer in the Coffee Mill Café for the special day. Visitors will be able to choose from old-style Lancashire fayre such as hotpot with red cabbage, corned beef hash and Chorley cakes. Other homemade treats will also be available.

Lancashire music will be played during the day to add to the atmosphere.

Museum staff are also preparing a challenge for visitors to enjoy. People are advised to make sure they're up to speed with their Lancashire dialect and ready to test their wits by translating some 'lanky twang' sayings.

Louise Jacobsson, Lancashire County Council's manager at Helmshore Mills, said: "I hope that lots of people will come along and enjoy Lancashire Day with us.

"We've lined up some themed activities to celebrate our special county."

Lancashire Day dates back to 1295, when the county sent its first representatives to Parliament, marking the county's move into the wider sphere of politics.
