Phase 1 Restoration at Moor Park Continues

16 December 2015

You might think that winter is a quiet time in our city Parks, but not in Moor Park this year.

Following a successful bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Big Lottery Fund, money is in place to restore Moor Park, along with some of its features and facilities, and to create new areas for the public and community groups including a café and events space.

• Contractor, Westfield Tree Services Ltd, is already on site and felling trees identified as dead, diseased or dangerous across the park.
• Also on site to carry out drainage works will be Philip Dixon Contractors Ltd working on making the footpaths around the park accessible in all weathers. Both companies are local and Lancashire based.
• Refurbishment of the Grotto also takes place over the winter, bringing the feature back to its former glory.

Welcoming the continuation of this Phase 1 work, Cabinet member for environment, Councillor Robert Boswell, said:

“It’s all systems go over the next few months as this very important work takes place in Moor Park – Preston’s oldest and largest park.

“Thanks to National Lottery funding, our Grade II* listed park can be restored and enhanced. Maintaining this fantastic asset for the people of Preston is essential, keeping its reputation as one of the finest and most significant parks in the country.”
