New Dates for Photography Courses at East Lancashire Railway

9 February 2015

New dates have been announced for steam train photography courses at the East Lancs Railway, run in partnership with North West Photography Courses.

The courses ran as a trial last summer and the interest has exceeded expectations according to Richard Barnett at East Lancs Railway “Enthusiasts have loved getting up close to the engines and photographing the work that goes on as well the trains on the tracks up and down the line”

The day long course sees photographers learn new techniques adapted for their level of skills and go behind the scenes at the railway to areas normally closed to the public, such as the engine sheds and inside the UK’s largest vintage railway signal box.

Photographers of any skill level are welcomed and with the group limited to five people, there is plenty of time for one to one teaching.

The day begins with a briefing and then goes out onto the platform at the ELR’s famous Bolton Street Station before joining a train up to Irwell Valley station which is amongst the most picturesque on the line with great vantage points to photograph trains steaming up the line.

On returning to Bolton Street, photographers are guided around the sheds and engine yards where the work going on to maintain and restore engines and carriages provides opportunities to capture scenes not available elsewhere.
