Tim Timinee Tim Timinee Tim Tim To You

Friday, 10th April 2015

The Grand Theatre is delighted to welcome Record-breaking comedian Tim Vine this October in his first stand-up tour in 4 years!

Tim joins a stellar line-up of top comedians performing on Blackpool Grand’s stage in 2015/16, including master of Comedy Michael McIntyre, ‘Chatty Man’ Alan Carr, Mock The Week favourite Milton Jones, New York Comic Lewis Schaffer, Professor Chucklebutty Ken Dodd OBE and the hilarious Ed Byrne.

The punslinger returns with lots of new jokes, silly songs and twitchy dancing. It's time to put the satire on hold and watch a grown man act the goat!

Be warned though, this show contains wobbly props, one reference to a panda and a song about getting water in your ear after you've been swimming.

When it comes to straightforward, no-nonsense wordplay and joke telling, Tim Vine has established himself as the national cornerstone at the very least. He is still the holder of the Guinness World Record with 499 jokes told in an hour.

As well as success on a number of TV shows and starring roles in pantos, Vine has become a Fringe regular and national favourite and gone on to perform numerous sell-out tours and festivals in the UK and beyond. He has released DVDs such as Punslinger Live and Jokeamotive Live, and his vast wealth of material has been preserved in books such as The Biggest Ever Tim Vine Joke Book and The Tim Vine Bumper Book Of Silliness.
Andrew Howard, Marketing Manager said,
“Our comedy line-up for 2015/16 is going from strength the strength and we haven’t finished yet. Top comedians love performing in Blackpool and we love having them here.”

Notes for Editors:

Blackpool’s Grand Theatre – Heritage and History
The Grand Theatre was opened on July 23, 1894 by Thomas Sergenson who immediately dubbed the theatre 'Matcham's Masterpiece'. This title is even more merited now that there are few surviving examples of the work of Frank Matcham, the leading Victorian theatre architect. The theatre took just nine months to build and cost Sergenson £20,000.

By the early 1960s theatres across Britain were closing due to loss of audience to television and in July 1972 the then owners, the Tower Company, applied for permission to demolish it. In its place they proposed to build a department store. However, by then, following an application to the Department of the Environment, the theatre had been listed as a Grade II* building and there had to be a full public enquiry.

Early in 1973 the Friends of the Grand was formed and after legal and financial wrangling, they, together with EMI and the local council, put together a deal involving leasing the theatre for £10,000 per annum and final purchase for £250,000.
