Leighton Hall’s new Facilities for Families

Wednesday, 22nd April 2015

On 5th May Leighton Hall opens its doors to the public and welcomes family visitors to the lived in family home of the Gillow Reynolds family.

Famous for its’ Objects d’art and stunning pieces of Gillow furniture, the house has no roped off areas. Visitors are welcomed at the front door by friendly and entertaining guides and encouraged to sit on the furniture, touch things and really get involved.

Children are not “hushed” or steered away, in fact, quite the opposite. Younger visitors to Leighton Hall have space to play, let off steam and see how we used to live.

New for 2015 is the extended and upgraded outdoor play area.  Developed with local company Playdale, the wooden structure has climbing apparatus, swings and a slide.  This latest attraction compliments the garden dens, caterpillar maze, tree face trail and the wonderful Woodland Walk.

In August the Hall comes alive with 10 teddy bears hidden around the house. Children are invited to take part in a free treasure hunt competition to spot all the bears to win a prize.

All visits include a guided house tour, birds of prey flying display (weather permitting) and time to stroll in the gardens and grounds before taking a delicious afternoon tea in the charming tearooms.

Suzie Reynolds, Owner of Leighton Hall said “This is the 57th year we’ve opened our doors to the public in the summer months and we always try to bring them something new.  We’ve spent a long time developing the outdoor activities for children and now there really is something for everyone on a family afternoon visit”.

For anyone who loves history or the nostalgia of a bygone era then Leighton Hall really is the place to while away a few hours this summer.

There’s a host of different events to enjoy in the forthcoming months including 2 evenings of Shakespeare in the Garden. They are also proud to host a fundraising walk for Parkinson’s UK on the 23rd August.  Check for details.

Leighton Hall is open weekday afternoons (Tues – Fri 2pm – 5pm), May – September.  Admission Adults: £7.75, Concessions: £6.95, Children age 5 – 12, £4.95.
