Get ready for Chorley’s Picnic in the Park

1 July 2015

Pack up your picnics and head to Chorley’s Astley Park on Sunday 5 July for an afternoon of free fun and entertainment at the annual Picnic in the Park event.

Chorley Council has teamed up with Rock FM to bring a fantastic family stage show to Astley Park with performances from CBeebies’ favourite – The Rhyme Rocket, a sing-along with the Snow Sisters, children’s entertainers, top local bands and singers as well as dance acts, face painters, balloon modellers and more.

There will also be opportunities to meet and have your picture taken with the cast of the Rhyme Rocket as well as the Snow Sisters who will be performing hits from the popular Disney movie, Frozen.

The fun starts at 12 noon and will also feature interactive activities for children including sports, games, orienteering challenges, arts and crafts, dress-up, meet the animals of Pets Corner and not forgetting the opportunity to explore the Astley Hall pop-up experience and the new destination play area.

Plus if you and your family like cycling, you can also take part in a 7 mile Skyride, which departs from Astley Park at 2pm.  Just bring along your bicycle and a helmet, then come back to the park after the ride and enjoy the rest of the festivities. Councillor Peter Wilson who is responsible for events at Chorley Council, said: “We’re really excited to bring this year’s line-up to Astley Park and we’d like as many families as possible to come and join us.

“Picnic in the Park is a fantastic event and we’ve planned lots of activities throughout the afternoon, including three performances from CBeebies’ The Rhyme Rocket, a brilliant sing-along show from the Snow Sisters and some other local up and coming acts.  There will also be several opportunities to meet the characters plus lots of great sports activities for everyone to have a go at.

“Come rain or shine, there will be lots going on between 12 noon and 5pm to keep the little ones entertained, so pack up your picnic goodies and come and sing and dance along to Rock FM’s family stage show.”

If you are driving to the event please be considerate of the residents of Astley Village and either park at Woodlands car park on Southport Road and use the Ackhurst Lodge entrance to Astley Park or park at one of the town centre car parks, which are free on Sundays.  If you are parking in the town centre, the event is only a five minute walk from the Park Road or Queens Road entrances to Astley Park. Hallgate car park will be open for blue badge holders only.
