If you go down in the woods today…..

13 July 2015

Unlike other Historic houses, Leighton Hall loves littlies! Children are not “hushed” or steered away, in fact, quite the opposite. Younger visitors to Leighton Hall have space to play, let off steam and see how we used to live.

Teddies, swings, dens, competitions and a maze and slide, are all activities to give your children a big surprise at Leighton Hall this summer.

As adults enjoy a guided tour of the house with enthusiastic and entertaining guides, children are offered a competition form and pencil so they can follow the teddy bear treasure hunt around the house, noting where they see the family of cuddlies hiding away. A different bear will be hiding in each room, and it is the young visitors’ job to find them! Completed forms are entered into a weekly draw, so there is also chance to win a prize!

Inside the Hall, there are no roped off areas and children are encouraged to touch and really get involved.

After the tour, step outside to witness spectacular birds of prey that fly at 3:30 (weather permitting), before venturing into the woods to “Find the Faces”. Using their paper and pencils, children can record where they spot the fabulous faces all hidden on various trees throughout the woodland walk. The dens are a great place to hide and one is set up with a table, chairs and tea set, so children can take their favourite bears for a secret teddy bears picnic.

Finally, let them run wild around the caterpillar maze, before playing in the outdoor play area featuring climbing apparatus, swings and slide. The tearooms and gift shop are the perfect way to end an exciting day.

All these attractions are included in the admission price and were the ideas of Lucy Arthurs, Estate Manager at Leighton Hall.

She said “Leighton Hall already offers so much to do for families but we wanted to add some new features for our younger visitors. We pride ourselves on the informality of Leighton Hall. There’s no stuffiness here so kids feel at home and their parents can relax. We invite all our guests (whatever their age) to sit on the furniture, relax and really enjoy their tour without being asked not to touch. The children’s indoor and outdoor attractions, and in particular the teddy bear hunt, are family favourites in August”.

So go down to Leighton Hall’s woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise!
