Craft Bakers’ Week searches for the UK’s most loved bakeries

2 July 2015

Craft Bakers’ Week, the national campaign helping to raise the profile of craft baking in the UK, has launched the ‘Most Loved Bakery Awards’ as part of its 2015 activity.

By signing up to take part in Craft Bakers’ Week, bakeries will be automatically entered into the competition, which enables their customers to vote for their favourite shop for the chance to win a ‘Most Loved Bakery Award’. If a bakery with more than one shop registers, each one will be entered separately into the competition and is eligible to win. As part of the voting process customers will be asked to say why their chosen bakery is worthy of an accolade, be that the quality and variety of their baked goods or their service, or a combination of all three. Customers can vote online by going to www.craftbakersweek.co.uk or through voting slips which can be downloaded from the website by the bakeries themselves.

The competition, which opens on the 1st June, is exclusively open only to those who register to take part in Craft Bakers’ Week 2015. The ‘Most Loved Bakery Awards’ will deliver additional benefits to participating bakeries, including increased PR opportunities. Winners for the ‘Most Loved Bakery Awards’ will be chosen in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and there will also be regional winners in England. Voting will close on the 21st September and winners will be announced during Craft Bakers’ Week which takes place from the 28th September to the 3rd October.”

Hannah Marriage, chair of Craft Bakers’ Week 2015 said, “This competition is a new and exciting part of the 2015 Craft Bakers’ Week campaign, and will help to encourage the public to get even more involved with their local bakery. The competition gives an added opportunity for bakeries to engage with their customers and to generate a sense of local pride. This can only help to increase the awareness of the great skill of craft bakeries in the UK as a whole. By launching a competition as part of this year’s campaign, we hope to continue to build on the success of the campaign to date.

By signing up to Craft Bakers’ Week not only will bakers help the industry, but they can also support the work of Make-A-Wish® UK, and help beat the 2014 total of £20,000 raised for the charity.

Craft Bakers’ Week is funded and supported by the Craft Bakers’ Association, Scottish Bakers and stakeholders from across the bakery sector including British Baker, California Raisins, CSM, Bakels, Bako, BFP, Dawn, Ireks, Marriage’s, Macphie, Puratos, Reynards and Zeelandia.

 About Make-A-Wish:

Please note that Make-A-Wish does not use phrases such as ‘terminally ill’ in order to respect the sensitive nature of life-threatening conditions and what they mean to children and young people and their families. We would ask that this approach is followed and that the term ‘life-threatening conditions’ is used in material for publication.

Make-A-Wish grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions. The charity was founded in the UK in 1986. Registered charity number: 295672/SC037479 www.make-a-wish.org.uk.
