Famous gardening celebrities all set for Chorley Flower Show

2 July 2015

TWO of the most well-known names in the horticultural world are set for Chorley after organisers announced they would be making special appearances at the new Chorley Flower Show.

Dozens of people have already booked their tickets for the Chorley Council-run event, which will see organic expert Bob Flowerdew and television presenter David Domoney carry out gardening demonstrations and take part in a question and answer session.

A top line up of gardening and horticultural entertainment is also planned for the weekend, which will see the unveiling of Chorley’s award-winning display from this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Councillor Alistair Bradley, Leader of Chorley Council, said: “We’re delighted to have two prestigious names from the horticultural world taking part in the show and it will be an opportunity for people to meet them both.

“I enjoy doing a bit of gardening myself and I always have questions I’d like to ask of an expert so if you find yourself with a burning question make sure you come along and put it to one of our celebrities.”

David presents the most watched garden television programme today ITV’s ‘Love Your Garden’ alongside Alan Titchmarsh and is also resident gardener on ITV’s This Morning programme. He is a columnist for the Sunday People and has won 27 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) medals. He will be appearing on Sunday 2 August.

Bob is an expert in organic methods and has been on Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time programme for more than 20 years. He will be presenting a fantastic talk ‘No Work Gardening’ and will tour the show area before answering your questions on Saturday 1 August.

“Not only will it be a chance to see some famous faces from the gardening world they will be at the show to pass on some of their skills and knowledge as well as take part in an open question and answer panel,” said Councillor Bradley.

If you are interested in gardening it promises to be a fantastic weekend with some of the best exhibitors in the country entering the show and it’s the first opportunity to see our award winning display ‘The Evaders’ Garden’ back here in Chorley after wowing visitors at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.”

Tickets are now on sale priced £4 adults, £2 children and £10 for a family ticket – you can get them online at chorley.gov.uk where you will find out more information about the show. Offline ticket sales will start later this month.

The event takes place in Astley Park on Saturday and Sunday 1 and 2 August and the area around the lodge and Astley Hall will be closed off from Friday 31 July until Monday 3 August. Access will be maintained so people can still get from Hallgate to the town centre at all times.
