POWWOW creative social network is one year old

28 July 2015

A social gathering for professionals from the creative sector is taking place in Preston this week.

POWWOW takes place at Glovers Bar from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday 30 July.

The networking event was launched a year ago and takes place every other month. It is a unique networking event bringing together businesses, freelances and students.

Everyone's welcome. There are no speakers, no explicit business support messages and no presentations from advisors.

It's just free food and drinks – courtesy of the sponsors – and networking.

Digital Lancashire has recently been formed to help drive digital sector skills and excellence within the region. At this month's POWWOW, there will be an opportunity to meet the people behind this recently formed organisation and discuss their plans to develop the sector in the region.

POWWOW is free to attend, but registration is essential via: www.creativelancashire.org/html/POWWOW6_1822.html

POWWOW was created by Lancashire County Council's Creative Lancashire service. The latest event is in association with Digital Lancashire and Cotton Court.

Ed Matthews-Gentle from Creative Lancashire explained: "There are no speakers and no advisors at POWWOW. It's just a great chance to meet up with like-minded creative people, discuss issues in the sector, and explore new business ideas."

"We started these events a year ago, because people working in the creative industries told us that they wanted more opportunities to talk to other people from their sector, share ideas and network. We listened to what they told us and we've set up this exciting event.

"Over the past year it's developed really well, with events taking place in Blackburn and Lancaster, as well as Preston. And we're currently working to set something up in Burnley.

"These events help to create the environment for businesses to collaborate, scale-up and grow in the region.

"Through our discussions with people in the sector, we identified a need to create an environment across the county to facilitate, connect and encourage this.

"It's possible thanks to our sponsors, who provide us with the funding to put on these creative networking events. Come along and join our creative POWWOW."
