Digitally trace your World War 1 ancestors

27 August 2015

Lancashire County Council's libraries are helping people to discover their WW1 ancestors online.

Staff from the county council's community heritage team will hold an ancestry workshop in September.

The workshop will show people how to use the internet to research their family history at the time of WW1.

Fiona McIntyre, community heritage manager, said: "The workshop is very hands-on. It includes visiting the Ancestry website using examples we have showing how to use the site most effectively.

"Anybody who has an ancestor who was involved in WW1 and wants to find out more about them are welcome to come along.

"We'll look at available WW1 records and any other useful sources of information.

"The session is useful for anyone who is interested or who wants to take this further and work on their family tree. Maybe they have already started their family tree and have got a bit stuck with their research."

The workshop lasts about one hour and a half and there will be an opportunity for people to stay behind and practice afterwards, for thirty minutes.

Basic computer skills are essential.

The session will take place on Monday 7 September from 10am to 12noon at Oswaldtwistle Library, Hyndburn.

Call 0300 123 6703 to book a place or call in at the library.
