Design a mill town at Queen Street Mill

Monday, 3rd August 2015

A Burnley event will give anyone with an interest in design the chance to build a model Victorian mill town.

The 'Become a Mill Town Extraordinaire' event will take place at Queen Street Mill Textile Museum at Harle Syke.

Booking is essential and the event will run on Tuesday 11 August, Thursday 13 August, Tuesday 18 August and Thursday 20 August from 10.30am to 12 noon.

Jennifer Ingham, Lancashire County Council's museum manager at Queen Street Mill, said: "We want as many adults and children as possible to come along and unleash their inner designer and get creative.

"Once participants have purchased a building plot they can be as imaginative as they want to be with our craft materials. This might mean that they design and construct a row of terraced houses or maybe a canal. People can plan our mill town as they like.

"The site has been plotted out we are looking forward to seeing the town come to life, grow and evolve each day as more people get involved. "

"It is also an engaging and different way to have fun."

Building plots to take part can be purchased at Queen Street Mill. They are available at £2 per child. Adults accompanying children go free.

The design of the completed Victorian mill town will be displayed at an event on Wednesday 26 August from 1pm to 1.30pm.

At the event, the new town will be named and everyone who has contributed to the design will be presented with a certificate.

This event will be free to attend.

Admission to Queen Street Mill is £3 for adults and £2 for concessions. Accompanied children go free.
