Festival of Stories

3 August 2015

The Festival of Stories is a brand new family arts event taking place during Lytham Festival on Friday 7th to Sunday 9th August 2015 at Park View 4U.

Featuring professional storytellers; staged and promenade theatre productions; ethereal aerial performances; enchanting puppet shows; sensory storytelling, dub poetry performances, published children and young adult author events, creative workshops, beautiful installations, and a dedicated 0-5 years zone, this three day programme of creative, interactive and participative storytelling and story-making events and activities will offer a magical and memorable experience to inspire and educate the whole family.

If you’re wondering what to take in from the jam packed programme of over 35 individual events, here’s a few of suggestions:

Start the day with a family walk through Wishing Well Woods and help ‘The Shrimper’s Daughter’ find her happy ever after with the Shrimp Prince. Emerge from the sea just in time to see a live compost heap eat its gardener in the wonderfully whacky ‘Compost Mentis’, from the Whalley Range All Stars.

Just before lunch catch anarchic street theatre company, Ramshacklicious, performing their brand new show ‘The Band At The End of The World’ in the amphitheatre. An afternoon of workshops await you and the kids: choose from ‘Book Making’, ‘Twisted Tales’ improvisation and ‘Story Yoga’ amongst others in our Handmade area and along the avenue of Once Upon a Time.

Or perhaps you’d prefer to meet one of your favourite authors? Cathy Cassidy, Chris Mould, Julian Clary are amongst our programme of talented writer events on offer. Then round off the day in Wishing Well Woods with the hauntingly beautiful aerial performances of The Whispering Woodfolk and their new show ‘Red Threads’.
