Ride the Light Fantastic! Short film released ahead of Tour of Britain race

1 September 2015

A compelling short film – Ride the Light Fantastic! – will be launched  this Saturday ahead of the big AVIVA Tour of Britain Stage2 race in the Ribble Valley and Pendle.

Pendle cyclists are being filmed on twilight rides between the Steven Burke cycle track, named after Pendle’s Olympic gold medallist, to Northlight – Brierfield Mill, all along the Leeds & Liverpool canal tow path.

The final short film will be posted on Pendle Council’s Facebook : pendlecouncil and Twitter: @pendlebc  and the Tour of Britain Stage2 website on Saturday 5 September  wwwtourofbritainstage2.co.uk

It’s being created by film maker Graham Kay and Pendle Council with support from ACDC lighting and riders from local cycling clubs, including Pendle’s own Go Velo, Pendle Forest and Pendle Raleigh Chopper riders group.

It will have a fascinating soundtrack by sound artist Helmut Lemke, thanks to support from the  Leeds and Liverpool Canal Super Slow Way organisation via  Arts Council England Creative People and Places Fund.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Mohammed Iqbal said: “This is a great opportunity to showcase our beautiful area.”

Sarah Lee from the Council’s Communications Team, who instigated the film, explained:

“A lot of film footage on cycling is adrenaline fuelled and focused on racing.

“I thought it would be interesting to create an artistic film to promote cycling and Pendle in a very different way.
Graham Kay, a film maker from Clitheroe, the start of the Stage 2 race, has been using the effect of darkness and light with the cyclists creating moving semi-abstract moving images of light.

Sarah added:

“The film features  Northlight –  Brierfield Mill and the Victorian gasometer, Brierfield –  two compelling landmarks on the Stage 2 race route.”

ACDC Lighting, a global lighting company based in Barrowford, will be lighting a canal bridge and Northlight – Brierfield Mill on Thursday and Friday evenings for the last twilight rides before the final cut.

The effect is fantastic!” Added Sarah.

“ACDC is a company with a passion for cycling and they’ve been taking part in the rides and even lighting the bikes in Tour of Britain colours – red, white and blue!” Said Sarah.
Ride the Light Fantastic! will also be featured on the big screens in  Colne on the day of the race – Monday 7th September, outside Colne Muni and at the race finish near St Bartholomew’s Church on Church Street.
