Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s Valhalla Gets The Golden Ticket

Blackpool Pleasure Beach is celebrating as Valhalla has been named The Best Water Ride in the World at the recent Golden Tickets Awards.
 
Representatives from amusement and water parks across the globe gathered at Coney Island, New York, on 11th and 12th September for the annual ceremony, which recognises the very best in the industry.
 
The Golden Ticket Awards are presented by Amusement Today, an international publication which covers the theme park industry. The Golden Ticket Awards were set up in 1998 and have since recognised top parks and attractions each year.
 
In addition to Valhalla being named best water ride in the world, Blackpool Pleasure Beach has also been named as the world’s third best seaside amusement park, sixth best amusement park, and as having the fifth best kid’s area.
 
Valhalla was opened in 2000 and has been thrilling visitors to the park ever since with its mix of amazing special effects, including fire and snow, exciting drops and gallons and gallons of water.  On opening, the ride represented a £15 million investment and was Britain’s biggest privately funded millennium investment.
 
Commenting, Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s Managing Director, Amanda Thompson OBE, said, “I am absolutely delighted that Valhalla has been named the world’s best water ride.”
 
Nick Thompson, Deputy Managing Director of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, adds, “This award means so much to me as Valhalla is a ride that I am extremely proud of.  When me and my father first came up with the concept of the ride, we wanted to make it the best in the world.  I spent a number of years traveling the world to find the very best special effects to use in the ride.  It’s pleasing to see that even a number of years on from its launch, the ride is still considered to be the best in the world.”
