Talk about Women and the War in Lancashire

18 May 2015

Lancashire County Council's libraries are helping people to discover what life was like for women on the home front during World War One.

Staff from the county council's community heritage team will hold a number of fascinating talks across the county, in May and June, remembering the contribution made by women and children and how the war affected them.

Fiona McIntyre, community heritage manager, said: "The women who lived through the First World War made great sacrifices and rose to the challenge.

"It was a time when women defied both cultural and social barriers and made some incredible achievements.

"Many women were employed for the first time, taking over jobs traditionally thought of as being suitable only for men.

"It is only right that we commemorate this generation of truly inspiring women."

The talks are free to attend but booking is essential as places are limited.

The talks will take place as follows:
Friday 5 June, 6pm, Ormskirk Library
Monday 15 June, 2pm, Leyland Library
