Find out more about flooding in your community and give us your experiences

18 January 2016

Pendle Council is urging residents and businesses affected by the flooding to come along to a meeting TONIGHT (18 January) at New Road Community Centre in Earby.

The meeting which starts at 6pm is being led by Pendle Council and will include representatives from agencies including the Environment Agency, Police, Lancashire County Council and the Fire and Rescue Service.

It will give an overview of the recent flood events, explain the different roles of the agencies involved and look at future schemes and how the community can be supported.

And a drop-in community roadshow is being held on Thursday (21 January) led by the Environment Agency for people concerned about flooding from all parts of Pendle.
The roadshow, which will also take place at New Road Community Centre in Earby, is between 3pm – 8pm.

Councillor David Whipp, who leads on flooding issues for Pendle, said: “It’s really important that anyone who has been affected by flooding comes along to these sessions to tell us about their experiences.

“These will help identify the extent and cause of the local flooding and inform our recovery work.
“Both the meeting and roadshow provide a good opportunity to speak to different agencies, ask questions, raise concerns and find out about the funding and support available.”

Speaking about Thursday’s community roadshow, Dan Bond, Environment Agency Manager, said: “You can’t underestimate the devastating impacts of flooding to people’s lives and the key to recovering quickly, and increasing our flood resilience in the long term, is to listen to the people who experienced it first hand and learn from their experiences.

“We’ve been visiting affected communities since the flooding began in early December, and these drop-in sessions are the start of a more coordinated approach to involving local people in the development of local flood risk management plans.

“We would encourage anyone affected by flooding to come along and talk to us. We will have technical experts from the Environment Agency and County Council available to chat to, with support from a number of agencies that can provide advice and support.”

Agencies attending the roadshow are yet to be confirmed but should also include Pendle Council, Lancashire County Council, Lancashire Fire and Rescue, National Flood Forum Advisory Service, Lancashire Integrated Wellbeing Service and the Association of British Insurers.
