North West hotel group to hold Seafood Festival at iconic coastal venue

22 April 2016

North West hotel group’s art-deco masterpiece is to play host to a sumptuous Seafood Festival this summer, celebrating all the finest fare that UK waters have to offer.

English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues is organising the inaugural weekend event at the internationally renowned Midland Hotel on Morecambe’s waterfront on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd July 2016.

Festival highlights will be an ‘Under the Sea’ themed dinner dance on the first evening, and a seafood and farmers market at the hotel to give local and regional suppliers the opportunity to showcase their products.

The event showpiece on the Sunday starts from 11am with a marquee featuring a Laurent Perrier champagne and oyster bar, a seafood stall with a wide variety of shellfish, crustaceans and other popular catches, local cask ales and live music from vintage singer Becki Fishwick and other entertainers.

“The Midland has always been renowned for its seafood cuisine, from Morecambe Bay shrimps to line caught sea bass, and we want to put on a really special weekend to celebrate the diversity and taste of our nation’s seafood,” says Mark Needham from English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues.  “Our aim is to make the Seafood Festival a popular annual fixture.

“The hotel’s stunning Sun Terrace views will be the perfect backdrop to a series of practical, hands-on displays about seafood preparation and the sustainability of fish.  Smokey Jo’s will lead the fun with demonstrations on how to smoke certain fish and Frank Benson will show festival visitors how to prepare world famous Morecambe Bay potted shrimps for the dish.”

The Midland’s ‘Under the Sea’ themed dinner dance on Saturday 2nd July will commence with a selection of seafood canapes and a champagne drinks reception, followed by a three course dinner and entertainment from Lancashire’s versatile 6-piece soul band 24/7.  Tickets are £49 per person or £450 for a table of 10 guests.

Festival visitors can relax at the Midland with afternoon tea sittings featuring seafood inspired sampling platters and 3-tier cakes, scones and finger sandwich selections.
