Celeb chef Richard gives regional classic a spicy twist at Accrington Food Festival

24 May 2016

Celebrity chef Richard Fox's cookery demo at Accrington Food Festival promises to put a spicy twist on a North West classic.

Richard will serve up his imaginative Caribbean jerk chicken and coconut rice in spiced Yorkshire puddings at his live cookery demo in the outdoor kitchen on Broadway on Saturday 4 June.

Visitors to the food fair will be able to sample Richard's dish directly after his engaging cookery demos at 10am and 3pm.

Richard, author of The Food and Beer Cookbook and co-star of the ITV series Men Brewing Badly with actor and beer enthusiast Neil Morrissey, was a hit with crowds at the 2015 Accrington Food Festival. Event organisers Scott Dawson Advertising are delighted to be welcoming ‘Foxy' back to the event for a second year.

Chef Richard Fox said:
"I had a great day at Accrington Food & Drink Festival in 2015 and am really looking forward to returning for this year's event.

"Over 10,000 people came last year and made me feel really welcome and the quality of the local food produced showcasing their food really blew me away. I've had fun developing my recipe for this year's food festival – please come along to watch me cook and get a great flavour of this fabulous event!"

Richard has shared his spicy Yorkshire pudding recipe on the Accrington Food Festival flyer, which is being delivered to 35,000 local households in the run up to the event on Saturday June 4th.

The flyer has full details of the free event, which runs in Accrington town centre between 10am and 4pm. It brings over 75 stalls of food and drink producers to the heart of Accrington, all showcasing the very best of the region's food, as well as foods from Malaysia to Mexico, India to Italy and Africa to the Caribbean. Plus a continental food market will bring speciality foods from across Europe to the heart of East Lancashire.

Richard Fox will also host cookery demonstrations from local chefs. At 11am Grant Smallridge of The Whitakers Arms will take to the stage on Broadway to prepare one of the restaurant's most popular dishes, their sweet chilli chicken & steak sizzler. Later, at 2pm student chefs from North Lancs Training Group will demonstrate how to make the wartime classic trench stew, serving it up with turnip bread in a World War 2 inspired field kitchen within St James' Church ground.

The Cakelicious children's cake decorating competition in Accrington Market Hall will give little ones the chance to get creative. Bugs are the theme of this year's competition, run by tutors and students from the new Roots Restaurant at Accrington & Rossendale College. It's free to enter and one lucky winner will receive a sweet hamper from Sweet Treat Designs on Water Street.

As well as all the flavours of the food festival, there's plenty to watch too. Celebrating the Accrington Pals centenary, a World War 2 re-enactment will take place in St James' Church grounds at 1pm. There's also the chance to see a classic MkIX Spitfire plane outside the Town Hall, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the RAF's iconic Battle of Britain fighter's first flight.
Free transport to the food festival is available on board a beautifully restored 1968 Leyland Titan double-decker bus from pick-up points in Great Harwood, Rishton, Baxenden, Church, Clayton-le-Moors, Huncoat, Oswaldtwistle, Rawtenstall and Haslingden.
