YES to appear in Lancaster…(though not together)

5 May 2016

Classic rock band YES are one of the many legendary bands and artists that appeared at the Great Hall at Lancaster University in the 1970s, a list that includes The Who, Elton John, Genesis, Paul McCartney and Wings, Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, Queen and U2, amongst many others. As it’s highly unlikely that YES will appear in Lancaster again the team at Lancaster Music Festival have decided that the next best thing would be to see them all perform individually. Keyboardist Rick Wakeman appeared at Lancaster Priory last October to kick off the Festival’s on-going Prog at the Priory season and next up will be legendary guitarist Steve Howe who will be performing a candlelit performance at Lancaster Priory on Friday October 21st as part of a solo UK tour promoting his Homebrew 6 album.

The Steve Howe concert will be the final concert of the Prog at the Priory 2016 season, which includes two concerts within the next month. On Saturday 28th May, in a unique blend of classical and progressive music, internationally-renowned organist and pianist Marco Lo Muscio and flautist John Hackett, brother of Genesis guitarist Steve, will perform instrumental interpretations of some of the masterpieces from the classic period of progressive rock. Included in the show will be tracks by Genesis, Pink Floyd, ELP, Rick Wakeman, Steve Hackett and King Crimson. Preceded by a tribute to Keith Emerson and with the involvement once again of the Priory choir, this promises to be a very special night.

The following weekend, on Friday 3rd June, there is a rare opportunity to see one of the legends of progressive rock, Sir Thijs van Leer of legendary Dutch band Focus, perform an acoustic set accompanied by the dazzling guitarist of Focus, Menno Gootjes. Support will be from keyboardist and vocalist John Young (ex-Asia, Scorpions, Jon Anderson, Greenslade and many others) whose band Lifesigns is making big waves in the current prog rock scene.

Tickets for the Prog at the Priory concerts are available from ticketsource.co.uk/bandwagonevents, and a 20% discount is available if tickets are purchased for all three concerts.
