Hunt is on for young reviewers to blog at Lytham Festival

14 July 2016

Are you a budding writer who loves live music and events? If so, Lytham Festival needs you.

Lytham Festival organisers are on the hunt for talented young writers to review gigs across this year’s week-long event from August 1-7.

Young people aged between 16 and 22 are being urged to show off their writing skills to be in with a chance of getting access to review some of the 33 events taking place on the Festival’s SEVEN stages.

Those reviews will then appear on the official Lytham Festival blog.

And as a thank you, the lucky reviewers will also be given a pair of tickets to experience one gig of their choice.

Lytham Festival Director Peter Taylor said “We know there are lots of talented writers out there and we want to give them the chance to get their work published.

“The Festival line-up is really eclectic this year so we’re ready to have it thoroughly tested by local young people who love music.

“Who knows we might uncover the next big-name music journalist – today they’ll be writing for the Lytham Festival blog, tomorrow NME?”

To get the chance to be a Lytham Festival Reviewer simply write a 100-word post about which act you’re most looking forward to seeing at the Festival and submit it to [email protected] by Monday 25 July.

With such a huge amount going on across the Festival, the young reviewers will be spoilt for choice with music, comedy and art from every genre on offer.

The Pavilion Stage offers seven nights of entertainment with comedian Nina Conti, home grown country music duo The Shires, a punk rock double header with The Dolls and Space, X-Factor winner Matt Cardle, indie boy band Lawson, The Wonder Stuff’s Miles & Erica and 80s pop band Heaven 17.

Over on the more intimate Stage Too the Festival offers some of the UKs upcoming talent as well as more established names with music.

On the bill you can find double MOBO winner Lemar, reality TV star Jake Quickenden, Leigh based indie-pop quartet The Lottery Winners, Merseyside soul boy band MiC Lowry, Blackburn boy next door singer Nathan Grisdale and punk-pop rockers Room 94.

The World Jazz Stage at the Assembly Rooms brings together a selection of the best music from across the globe with everything from Irish Folk to Reggae and Ska.

The week kicks off with the globally inspired Off The Rails Big Band followed by competition winners the Soul Convicts, reggae and ska infusion Jeramiah Ferrari, the nine-piece powerhouse that is the Bugalu Foundation, crazed musical lunatics Fire Beneath the Sea, Irish folk band Drop The Floor and folk storytellers Lupa Tom.

The Church Stage offers a selection of classic and comedy music over three nights. Hilarious musical duo Ferris & Milnes bring their brand of ‘banteriffic’ comedy to Lytham while the Heart of England String Quarter and Heart of England Chamber Orchestra provide two nights of classical arrangements.

The UKs largest outdoor seaside cinema screening will also take place in the Lytham Green Proms Arena with Star Wars: The Force Awakens while Lytham Hall’s outdoor picnic cinema return for another year.

This year picnic cinema features the cult classic musical comedy horror Rocky Horror Picture Show and to celebrate the life of the late David Bowie, firm favourite and adventure musical fantasy film Labyrinth will also be screened.

And for those who love something a little different the RNLI Lifeboat Museum will be the venue for some traditional sealife entertainment as The Shanty Crew present Echoes of the Sea.

Headliners Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Canadian rock giant Bryan Adams, The Village People, Bay City Rollers and musical theatre band Collabro are among those who will perform in the main Lytham Green Proms Arena.

Tickets are on sale to all Lytham Festival events now and The Lytham Festival Box Office is now open in Lytham Piazza.
