All Aboard For A Summer To Treasure

Thursday, 12th January 2017

For 30 years, visitors have embarked on a dramatic journey like no other in a glorious corner of Lancashire.

And this summer, the nation’s biggest outdoor walkabout theatre season celebrates its special anniversary with a sparkling production of Treasure Island from July 4-August 12.

Lancaster’s Edwardian Williamson Park is the beautiful setting for a rare theatrical experience where the audience follow the drama by moving from one fantastic location to another with the actors.

Since 1987, Lancaster’s Dukes theatre have been entertaining generations of families during the summer with their promenade shows, creating memories to treasure for a lifetime.

Their 2016 production of The Hobbit won the UK Theatre Award for Best Show for Children and Young People and in the past 30 years, more than half a million people from far and wide have followed The Dukes to enjoy an outdoor theatre experience with a difference.

Central to each production is the impressive Ashton Memorial, once described as the grandest monument in England, from which audiences can enjoy the stunning sunset views across Morecambe Bay during the show and take in a picnic too.

Over the past three decades, The Dukes walkabout shows have transformed Williamson Park into Neverland, Oz, Ancient Greece and Middle Earth.

For 2017, the park will be transformed into Treasure Island as Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel is given a thrilling new twist as the audience join Jem Hawkins on her search for treasure along winding paths and dark woodlands.

Treasure Island is recommended for all adventurers aged 5+. For more information and to book, visit www.dukes-lancaster.org or ring The Dukes Box Office on 01524 598500.
