Whirlybird Beer Takes Off

23 February 2017

Bowland Brewery this week launched Whirlybird beer, its latest ale which will help the North West Air Ambulance Charity (NWAA) stay in the skies.

The beer has been specially brewed to raise funds for the helicopter rescue service, which covers Lancashire, Cumbria and Greater Manchester and relies on charitable donations to survive.

Whirlybird was launched on Thursday at Bowland Brewery’s Holmes Mill headquarters in Clitheroe, in the heart of the Ribble Valley. For every pint sold of the 4.2% deep amber ale with subtle raisins and dark fruit character, 10p will be donated to the NWAA.

Director Andrew Warburton said: “We are delighted to be supporting the NWAA, which does such a fantastic job for the people of the region, helping more than 21,000 people since it started in 1999. Just the fuel to keep the helicopter flying costs £13,500 a month, so every penny we can raise will help this vital service.”

Bowland Brewery is extending the fundraising with a pub quiz available to publicans who sell the ale, including prizes provided by the brewery.

The Bowland Beer Club is also joining in the fun with an evening of fun fundraising activities on Thursday March 23 in the Beer Hall at Holmes Mill. Members of the Beer Club enjoy access to special offers and exclusive discounts on Bowland Ales at Holmes Mill, The Shireburn Arms and the Waddington Arms plus exclusive events and beer tastings – sign up at www.bowlandbrewery.com/beer-club/

Andrew added: “We are looking forward to raising lots of money and having plenty of fun at the same time. Whether it’s at the Beer Hall or in one of the many pubs stocking Bowland Ales, every pint sold carries a donation and the pub quiz is guaranteed to be a great night out. Look out for other activities to be announced soon – including a Whirlybird Ball, which promises to be a fantastic event.”

Jenny Haskey, Head of Fundraising at the North West Air Ambulance Charity, comments: “We were very excited to see the first ale named in our honour being unveiled last week. We would not be here without the generous people of the North West so this is a unique way for the company and the public to brew funds to help raise us up.”

Bowland Brewery is based at Holmes Mill in Clitheroe, a former textile mill which has been lovingly restored as a food, drink and hospitality hub in the heart of the Ribble Valley. It is part of the James’ Places group with all venues sharing the same service values and ethos for beautiful surroundings with exceptional food and drink.
