Pop-up Arts at Hipping Hall

10 April 2017

Hipping Hall, is gearing up to host its first ever arts pop-up on 28th April. The event featuring top artists and creators from across the north of England will take place from 10am until 4pm.

Artists working across a variety of media will feature, including calligraphy from Neat Creative, ceramics from Martin & Siobhan Miles-Moore, watercolours by Cally Lawson, pastels by Sandra Orme, and silver work by Victoria Kershaw.

The pop up is a showcase for some of the artisan crafts people Hipping Hall is set to work with in the coming months as the top foodie bolt hole launches its Old Stables Creative Breaks…

Hipping’s first in a series of creative breaks launches this summer on 11th June with a residential pottery masterclass led by leading ceramicists Martin and Siobhan Miles-Moore.

This course is structured to encourage everyone to think about their surroundings and to use all their senses to help them create unique ceramic pieces of work during their stay in this beautiful part of the world.

Each budding potter will get one to one tuition using the wheel to create and finish a piece, as well as having the opportunity to hand build several other pieces. During their stay students, will have the opportunity to pick up hints and tips from the experts and put them into practice, and will be introduced to range of techniques including Raku and Sgraffito.

Andrew Wildsmith, Hipping Hall’s owner, said: ‘’We have recently carried out a major redecoration of the main house at Hipping Hall. During that time, we worked with a huge range of local artisan crafts people inspired by our surroundings to create everything from table ceramics to iron work, bespoke paint pigments made from local natural minerals to bespoke Tweeds. During the reimagining of Hipping, we got chatting with the various artists and discovered there was a real desire to offer quality creative breaks in this part of the world- one thing led to another and here we are.’’

Martin Miles-Moore, said: “We have absolutely loved working with Hipping Hall and helping the team there to bring out more of the sense of this unique and special place. The opportunity to help people explore their own creativity in this inspiring location is one that we are really excited about.”
